New Store & September Feature

Hey everyone!

I know, I know this month’s feature is a little late but I did say around the 11th didn’t I.

Anyway, I have been a busy bee getting ready for hunts and updating my store which is why I chose this month’s feature, my sister Maggie Atkinson.

She was the natural choice in light of the fact that she created the symbol for my store, that delicious cupcake that adorns my sign as well as some of my clothes. Plus we work together in real life so it was easy to get her to answer the questions.

She isn’t a member of SL but I thought what the heck why not take a walk on the wild side, so here goes…

MF: Are you in fact my sister and if so how many years have we been related?

MA: Hmm, that’s a tough question. I know that you like to pretend you’re adopted but I am pretty sure we are sisters and have been so for…how old are you again? 32 years is it?

MF: Haha, very funny, your antagonizing reply alone lets my fellow bloggers know that we’re related.

MA: I try.

MF: How long have you been my bitch?

MA: And by bitch you mean how long have you been forcing me to make original pieces of artwork for your Second Life clothes? That would be a few years now.

MF: Nice, tell everyone that the cutest items in the store have nothing to do with me.

MA: Not true, you did all that Halloween stuff, most of that was cute.

MF: Thanks. Now on to the next question…How long have you been an artist?

MA: Awhile (Sorry I couldn’t resist).

MF: When I’m not exploiting you what do you like to work on, as far as art goes?

MA: I draw a lot of different things, I enjoy portraits mostly.

MF: Are you currently working on anything at the moment?

MA: Yep, I am always working on something. For example I just updated your Cupcake Clothing sign didn’t I?

MF: I believe you did, yes.

MA: I should have been working on the Elfquest Fan Calendar project I am running you know.

MF: Probably but the cupcake is done now, no use complaining.

MA: I suppose that’s true.

MF: So why do you have such a hate-on for SL?

MA: Really, you’re still spreading that rumor. I don’t have a hate-on, I don’t mind SL at all, it’s like playing Sims only in SL you can have sex on the counter in a store if you like. You can also lose your vagina in the street, what’s not to like.

MF: If you did join SL would you have a clothing store?

MA: Yep and I would totally take all your clients too…haha.

MF: Sisters are awesome…So is there a website where people can look at your artwork?

MA: Yes, they can visit Deviant Art and see what I do when I’m not chained to your desk.

MF: Heh…thanks for the interview Maggie.

MA: No problem, just add it to the long list of things I’ve done for you.

Wow, aren’t siblings wonderful? I guess I can’t complain all that much, she did design a new cupcake for my new store, and pretty quickly too.

Take a peek at the new Cupcake Clothing I think it looks kinda awesome.

Well that's it for today, I have to get back and finish up the last details on my store.

Until next time!

The Story of Mesh

I decided that I hate mesh. Yep, that’s right you heard it here, the new trend in SL is my nemesis.

Now you probably think that is because I don’t know how to use it but you’d be wrong. I can use it, although I think I prefer the look you get (as far as adding your own textures) from my old templates but hey, to each his own.

Nope the reason I dislike mesh so much is because of the fact that the sellers of the templates get to put a ton of restrictions on how you use them.

For example, I had to remove an item from the Harvest Moon Hunt and replace it with something I quickly whipped up because the person I bought my mesh template from said I was not allowed to give it away in a hunt. When I told them that it wasn't a free hunt they said that 1 L wasn't enough and that I had to charge at least 50 L when I sold items made from their template.

Well she, ahem...I mean they can kiss my rear. I sell inexpensive items in my store, sure 50 L isn’t much but I paid for the template and I should get to decide how it is being used and how much I am charging for it.

So for those of you looking for mesh in my store, sadly you won’t find it. Well at least until the rules change a bit but until then, you can still find quality items for a decent price, they aren’t mesh but I have a feeling that trend is going to blow over anyway.

Oh and a quick thank you to Joyous Destiny who offered to help me out when my items had to be pulled from the hunt. It’s not often that you find someone so kind and I have to say a big thank you to her.

August Feature

Hey fellow bloggers and SL fans!

I have something new coming to my blog and I want to share.

Each month, sometime near the 11th I will be featuring someone from Second Life on my blog and hey, guess what? It could be you.

If you would like a feature drop me a notecard, you may be the next thing I blog about.

Augusts feature is an up and coming designer as well as a friend of mine Kimba Lockjaw. I had the pleasure of sitting down with her and asking a few questions.

MF: How long have you been having fun in Second Life?

KL: Since 2007

MF: How long have you had your Boutique?

KL: Since 2012

MF: What made you want to become a designer in SL?

KL: I have wanted to start making clothes and selling them for about four years now but for some reason I just couldn't get motivated to start. If it wasn't for my BFF's in SL (Maggie Fanbridge & Candy Ninza) giving me the push and lots of support, I would never have started, so TY so much my ladies my B's.

MF: What style of clothing do you sell in your store, Kimba’s Boutique?

KL: Girlie girl I guess you would call it, also sexy. I am going to try my hand at rugged and adding men’s clothes as well.

MF: Is there anything else you plan on trying your hand at?

KL: I have started making some shoes and men's clothes; someday I hope to do custom designs for customers. Right now I offer a change of color if asked and if possible.

MF: I’ve noticed that you are involved in hunts; do you enjoy participating in them?

KL: Yes I do! They’re a great way to get new people to see what I offer.

MF: I have to ask, what's with all of the butterflies?

KL: Well I have always loved butterflies but I really got into them in SL. I was going to name my store FLUTTERBY'S but I found the name was taken.

MF: Last question, what are some of your future goals (for your store)?

KL: To at least be as good and successful as my friends: Candy Ninza (Shadow Moon) and Maggie Fanbridge (Cupcake Clothing).

MF: Aw that is so sweet of you to say, thank you so much Kimba for answering my questions and being my first feature.

If you are interested in checking out Kimba’s Boutique or her SL Marketplace store please check out my “Sweet Links”.

Kimba’s store offers in game group as well a free gift, so teleport yourself over there right away.

I'm Back

It has been awhile since I posted anything here at my Cupcake Clothing blog. The reason? Well I've moved around a lot in Second Life since I first started my blog and I figured there was no point in updating when I didn't have a permanent location for my store.

Now I do and I am back in the business of blogging, as well as selling (what I think) are some of the cutest clothes in Second Life.

I have a great new store that won’t be going anywhere, anytime soon.

Use the “Cupcake Clothing” link in my "Sweet Links" to check it out in person or just enjoy the photos.

More to come…
